A.C.E.S. (After school program through Community Leaders, Educators and Students)
A.C.E.S. is an after school program for third, fourth and fifth graders, and meets five days a week at Weinland Park Elementary School. A.C.E.S. is based on educational achievement and particular attention is given to math and reading. In addition to education, A.C.E.S. also focuses on personal development. Group leaders address topics like violence prevention, health and wellness, teambuilding, and diversity.
Kidz Klub is an after school program on Fridays for kindergarten through second grade students of parents who participate in Parent Partnership. Each child in the program works one on one with a volunteer tutor who helps them with reading and math. Activities are designed to make learning fun for children and also introduce social skills that give children an added advantage in school.
Our Parent Advocates are Godman Guild staff who work with parents of kindergartners, first and second graders who attend school in the Godman Guild service area. This component provides the necessary resources, activities and support that parents need to fully participate in their child's education at home and at school.
Summertime Safari
Part of the Guild's Summer Youth Empowerment Program (SYEP), Summertime Safari is a four week academic day camp held at the Godman Guild and Camp Mary Orton. Children focus on improving math and reading skills through hands on learning, field trips and group exercises. Trips to Camp Mary Orton are made twice a week so children may swim and experience nature. Two four week sessions are offered each summer.
Recent data collected showed that students who attend A.C.E.S. are testing higher on pre- tests for proficiency, have higher self esteem about school work, have better attitudes about coming to school, and show improvements with social skills and behavior.
