A.C.E.S. provides a continuum of academic, social, and emotional learning supports that create year-round wrap around programming through a summer learning experience at S.Y.E.P. (Summer Youth Empowerment Program) summer camp. This year-round approach to academic, social, and emotional learning, in tandem with family engagement, results in increased social and emotional learning and improved math and reading scores for students, and increased family involvement with youth, schools, and the community. S.Y.E.P. is a summer day camp for youth entering grades 1-9. S.Y.E.P. provides 8-weeks of summer programming at Godman Guild’s Camp Mary Orton.

Continuum of Learning

  • A.C.E.S. summer component, S.Y.E.P., offers youth in grades K-8 a summer day camp experience that includes transportation to Camp Mary Orton, meals and snacks, traditional day camp experiential learning, activities aimed at bridging the summer learning gap, age and developmentally appropriate social emotional learning opportunities, and employment through our Junior Staff program (a paid internship opportunities for “graduated” campers ages 13-18).
  • Traditionally S.Y.E.P. has offered more than recreational day camp activities. S.Y.E.P. activities support academics and SEL enrichment, as well as valuable life skills that support youth’s overall success such as swimming, nutrition, emotional regulation, communication, time management, hygiene, sexual rights, and responsibilities (ages 12 and up), personal safety, social justice advocacy, financial literacy, and career exploration.
  • S.Y.E.P. programming helps to mitigate non-academic barriers to student academic success. S.Y.E.P. provides a continuation of program services, creating greater opportunities for learning and stronger relationships with staff, youth, community, and family.
