Adventure Academy Camp Co- Director (summer 2020)

Discovery Day Camp and Adventure Academy at Camp Mary Orton are week-long day camps that includes cooperative games and team-building initiatives, crafts and creativity, nature based exploration through hiking, creeking, and natural shelter building; Adventure Academy also includes high adventure elements (such as a climbing wall, zip-line, and ropes course) as well as a Thursday night all-camp overnight sleeping in tents. The Director is responsible for the day to day operation of the Adventure Academy summer day camp program, including activity scheduling, organization and safety of campers, and staff supervision. One director will also be delegated responsibilities for CIT (Counselor in Training) supervision.

  • Essential Responsibilities

-Participate in pre-camp staff recruiting and training and activity planning.

-Collaborate with Co-director, lead counselors, counselors, and the Youth Camps Supervisor to deliver a safe, friendly, and high-energy adventure program to enrolled campers.

-Develop and facilitate camp activities, including team-building games and initiatives, crafts, hiking and creeking, awards and recognition, and other activities with the assistance of CMO staff.

-Supervise purchases and be a good steward of CMO resources so that the program remains within its assigned budget.

-Ensure that all staff are clocking in and out of the payroll system and manage staff hours to minimize overtime.

-Collect and organize camper and counselor records.

-Create group rosters and assign group counselors.

-Ongoing evaluation of counselors, giving and listening to feedback.

-Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being and happiness of campers.

-Supervise the daily serving of meals to campers and organize meal prep for Thursday night dinner cookout.

-Assist with urgent behavioral needs of campers.

-Run an organized check-in and check-out process.

-Engage with parents and the Youth Camps Supervisor regarding concerns, challenges and pertinent updates on campers.

-Submit all paperwork in a timely manner, including incident reports.

Monitor and respond to the AA cell phone and email account.

-Lead by setting a good example for counselors and campers.

-Conduct weekly check-in meetings with staff

-Maintain CPR/First Aid training

-Provide and document training and supervision for counselors-in-training.

-Supervise camp and staff during overnight campouts

-Drive an agency vehicle and supervise campers during off-site field trips

- Lead the Parent’s Night program

-Ensure that staff are maintaining the organization of AA materials and the cleanliness of AA program areas

-Perform other duties as assigned

Work hours will generally be 8am-430pm M-F for the duration of c& will be expected to have a Tues overnight on 3 designated weeks.

  • Working with youth: 2 years (Preferred)

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
