Be part of something special: SYEP at Camp Mary Orton is seeking counselors to co-lead groups of 25 inner-city youth in assigned grade level from kindergarten thru 8th grade through their day by providing safety, structure, adventure and fun.. Activities include hands on learning opportunities in STEM, Language Arts, and social emotional development as well as traditional day camp activities: arts and crafts, hiking, creeking, silly songs, field games, camp competitions, and swim lessons. We focus on fun based learning experiences for a fantastic, dynamic summer experience.
> Dedication to providing a safe, inclusive, and educational environment
> Provide co-leadership and direction to grade level program family of 25-30 campers by guiding through daily schedule within set time limits, with a team of staff.
> Co-planning and facilitation of schedule “free blocks”, weekly “choice” or “rotations” activities.
> Support daily SYEP functions: bus stop supervision, breakfast and lunch program, specialized program areas, and family night.
> Document and turn in group attendance, activity logs, safety logs and individual contact notes.
> Interact with campers as well as parents and guardians of campers in a professional, courteous, and responsive manner.
> Supporting and enforcing all SYEP program policy and procedures.
> Ability to work a cooperative, team oriented environment with flexibility and a sense of humor.
> Ability to communicate with diverse populations.
> Communicates with SYEP leadership regarding any issues, concerns, or challenges with any outside entity (i.e. bus personnel, camp staff) , campers, co-workers or parents/guardians of campers.
> Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:requires physical activity: limited lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs., hiking, climbing, swimming, kneeling, running, ability to travel @ 1 mile on paved, wood chipped, and dirt paths over varied and uneven terrain.
Work Environment:Work is performed in a combination of indoor (not climate controlled) and outdoor environments in various weather conditions with uneven and varied terrain.
Equipment:Ability to enter time into on-line timesheet system via cell phone or PC; working knowledge of Microsoft word and EXCEL; ability to disconnect from social media and personal cell phone during camp hours a must.
Availability:Staff Orientation/Training: First week of June 8:15 to 4P; otherwise 8A-4P; 5 evenings throughout the summer for staff meetings and special events
> Previous experience with children necessary
> Ability to pass Ohio Criminal Background Check
> Completion of High School with earned degree; age 18 by 6/1/2020
> Current 1st Aid-CPR certification or ability to be trained by June 4, 2020 (training will be provided for those who do not have it)
> Summer Camp, Education or Social Work interest or background preferred.
> Special Consideration will be given to candidates with a fine arts or athletic/ adventure elements background
